It’s the end of the year and the end of this Congress. Now what? I’m beginning to see some movement of things at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, and the big rules implementing the Food Safety Modernization Act will likely be released soon, even though there’s a $1.2-billion price tag for industry.
On August 5, corn and soybeans rated poor to very poor stood at 50 percent and 39 percent, respectively as reported by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and the outlook likely will not improve. It is clear we did not adequately prepare for our current drought.
