A trip back to the International Poultry Show

August 8, 2011

How times change. If you follow the link below, you are in for a bit of nostalgia.

Take a trip back to 1963 and the International Poultry Show, Olympia, London. Note the music and the way the commentator talks! There are still bowler hats and smoking judges.

The average slaughter weight for turkeys in the UK is currently between 31 lbs. and 42 lbs., so the prize winning turkeys shown in the report are heavy even by today’s standards.

The International Poultry Show back in 1963 was part of the Dairy Show, and a decade later became an entity in its own right. It no longer exists, however, partly the victim of high costs associated with being in London, so attendance is now strictly limited to online viewing.
