U.S. President Donald Trump gave a special shout out to U.S. egg farmers, saying they “do a wonderful job,” while he spoke at the 141st annual White House Easter Egg Roll, held April 22, the day after the holiday.

Knowing that there were plenty of children ready to hunt for Easter eggs, the president kept his event address brief – it was less than three minutes long -- but during that time, Trump did take a few seconds to praise the people who provided the eggs. According to the American Egg Board, 74,000 eggs were donated for the event.

“(They) do a wonderful job. I love them, I know they like me, too. It’s the egg farmers of this country,” Trump said.

“They brought thousands and thousands of eggs. I don’t know if you can use them all, but I have a feeling with these young, very ambitious children, they’re going to find a reason. They’ll be gone.”

Trump also gave recognition to others making the event possible, including First Lady Melania Trump, the U.S. Marine Corps Band and the White House Historical Association.

A video of the ceremony can be seen on the White House website.

After Trump's partisan speech during the National Thanksgiving Turkey observance a few months ago, I was pleasantly surprised with the content and the brevity of Trump’s speech. Yes, there was a little boasting, but Trump is a politician, and with the Christian reason for the season in mind, I’ll forgive him for that.

From all that I could sense from watching the video, there’s no doubt in my mind that the children at the White House Easter Egg Roll had a good time, and those kids old enough to remember it will carry those memories with them for the rest of their lives.

That memorable event could not have been done without the egg farmers of our country and the related industry organizations. It is great that they get appreciated on a national stage every Easter, but I want to make sure they feel appreciated no matter what time of year it is.
