A commercial featuring an Olympic swimmer and a Canadian poultry producer shows same passion for their separate endeavors.

It’s not a connection people would immediately make, but there are similarities between Olympic athletes and poultry farmers.

But a commercial given airtime on the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) during the telecast of the 2024 Olympics has helped Canadians learn just how much they have in common.

In a partnership between Chicken Farmers of Canada (CFC) and Swimming Canada, a really good commercial was filmed and shown to fans of the Olympics.

Since I don’t live in Canada, I didn’t see the CBC broadcast, but CFC Director of Public Affairs and Communications Lauren Kennedy shared with me a link to the video on Instagram.

And it's really good.

The commercial features Olympian Sophie Angus, who just swam a split on the country’s 4X100 women’s medley relay which narrowly missed out on a bronze medal with a fourth-place finish at the Olympics. It also features broiler farmer Rachel Sheffield, tending to her flock on a Nova Scotia farm.

And while the tasks the two young women are performing seem quite different, they do show the same passion for what they do.

“Being the best at what you do often starts with early mornings,” the voice on the commercial says. “You want to get at it, get into it, put in the work to make everything great. And after you’ve done your length and made the effort, it’s a great feeling knowing you’re doing it for Canada and Canadians.”

The ad made me want to support Canadian chicken farmers and cheer for the Canadian athletes, so even though the residents of Canada was the intended audience, their message crossed the border into the United States.

The video can also be seen on YouTube.

This isn’t the first ad that I’ve seen promoting CFC. You may recall an earlier blog post I wrote concerning the organization’s Chicken Raised Right ad, which showed a person in a chicken suit doing good things for others. I really enjoyed that one as well.

After having seen those two commercials, I do hope CFC continues to make clever and inspiring videos. The organization has a good thing going.
