Winning $5,000 dollars, or even a three-month supply of eggs, would be a nice holiday surprise, especially with egg prices on the rise due to outbreaks of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI).

According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) latest Egg Markets Overview, the Consumer Price Index for eggs in November 2024 increased 8.2% from October, with an average price of $3.65 per dozen. The most recent report of HPAI in a U.S. layer flock involved 1.6 million hens in Sioux County, Iowa.
