The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) raised its projections for U.S. broiler production for the remainder of 2024 and for 2025.

Regarding U.S. turkey production, the agency raised its projections for production for 2024, but its forecast for 2025 remained the same.

The new forecast figures were included in the USDA World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates (WASDE) report, issued on September 12.

U.S. broiler production

In last month’s WASDE report, USDA anticipated that 2024 U.S. broiler production would amount to 46.9 billion pounds, but in the September report, that estimate was raised to 47.1 billion pounds.

The report stated that the 2024 projections were adjusted because “current slaughter data and hatchery data (is) pointing towards more chicks placed in the third and fourth quarters.”

The September WASDE report revealed the USDA anticipated U.S. broiler production in 2025 would reach 47.68 billion pounds, an increase from the August prediction that 2025 production would amount to 47.5 billion pounds. The agency based that change on the trend that producers are responding to improving margins.

U.S. turkey production

In the most recent WASDE report, USDA projected that U.S. turkey production in 2024 would reach 5.13 billion pounds, up from the 5.12 billion pounds predicted in its August report. The changed forecast was based on “eggs set data,” the report stated.

The September WASDE report’s projections for 2025 U.S. turkey production was unchanged from August, holding steady at 5.18 billion pounds.

The next WASDE report will be released on October 11.
