Greener Pastures Chicken, the poultry company founded by Buffalo Bills linebacker Von Miller and Cameron Molberg, has signed on with the Better Chicken Commitment (BCC).

The BCC is described as a set of standards that are a benchmark for chicken welfare, supported by prominent animal protection organizations, food businesses, and consumers in the U.S. and worldwide. At its core, the BCC tackles key welfare concerns, including overcrowding, a lack of enrichment. Broilers meeting BCC standards are breeds that are slower growing than the industry standard.

Greener Pastures Chicken, which in 2024 opened a poultry plant in Elgin, Texas, is the combined vision of Miller and Molberg, who are both Texas A & M University (TAMU) alumni. Miller, who has gone on to have a successful career in the National Football League (NFL), was a poultry science major at TAMU.

According to the Greener Pastures Chicken website, the company “actualizes a vision of happy chickens, regenerative organic agriculture and a better food system for all.”

Molberg, in a press release, said agreeing to abide by BCC standards is an example of putting that vision into motion.

“Greener Pastures Chicken was founded on the belief that consumers deserve a better choice, and chickens deserve a better life,” said Molberg. “The Better Chicken Commitment ensures we are holding ourselves accountable to the highest standards while also meeting consumer demand for more humane chicken. We aim to lead in setting a new standard for responsible chicken farming.”

The company’s decision to align with the BCC received the applause of Compassion in World Farming (CIWF), an advocate of the BCC.

“We are proud to see Greener Pastures Chicken make this commitment and transform the lives of chickens in its supply chain for the better,” said Julia Johnson, U.S. head of food business at CIWF. “This alignment with the BCC reflects a growing recognition in the poultry industry that higher welfare standards are necessary and achievable. We encourage other companies to follow Greener Pastures’ leadership.”
