WOAH: Hong Kong avian infectious bronchitis outbreak resolved

The single outbreak was at a farm and botanical garden.

Hong Kong’s lone outbreak of avian infectious bronchitis (AIB) has been resolved, according to the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH).

WOAH first opened a report on the situation on October 23, 2023, and issued another report on September 9, 2024, stating that the situation was resolved.

According to WOAH, there was only one premises with birds affected by the virus. At the Kadoorie Farm and Botanic Garden, four chicks that were hatched in May 2023 were found with unilateral ocular / periorbit swelling. They were culled in October 2023. Two more checks with the same appearance were noticed later. Samples were submitted Tai Lung Veterinary Laboratory for testing and the tests were positive.

The source of the infection was deemed incomplete or inconclusive.

No other cases of AIB in Hong Kong were reported to WOAH.
