Nearly 13,000 more birds have been lost in Poland’s latest case of Newcastle disease.
The World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) reported that in the latest Newcastle disease flock infection in the country 1,579 birds died, while the remaining 11,220 birds in the flock were euthanized. The flock was located in Rzeczyca.
WOAH only identified the flock as “domestic poultry.”
This is the 23rd flock in Poland to be affected by Newcastle disease since September 2023. Bird losses related to those 23 flocks now amount to 3,415,985.
The source of these infections is described by WOAH as “unknown or inconclusive.”
Poland also dealt with Newcastle disease in 2023. During that year, four flocks were affected by Newcastle disease. Those four flocks collectively included 78,315 birds. Following the successful completion of control measures, the situation was declared resolved on November 29, 2023.
The only other countries that WOAH has active reports related to Newcastle disease are Sweden and Israel.
