The Newcastle disease situation in Poland does not appear to be easing, as two more poultry flocks in the country have been infected.
The World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) reported two new premises have had the presence of Newcastle disease confirmed in domestic poultry flocks.
One of those flocks was in Rogoźnica-Kolonia, where a flock of 33,855 birds was affected. Of those, 589 died and the remaining 32,266 were euthanized.
The other flock was at a farm in Nowa Wioska, where 26,180 birds were susceptible. Of those, 4,000 died with the remaining 22,180 euthanized.
Since September 2024, Poland has had 29 poultry flocks struck by Newcastle disease, and a total of 3,863,696 birds have been lost.
Control measures applied included stamping out, disinfection, zoning, surveillance within the restricted zone, movement control, traceability, and official destruction of animal products.
The source of these Newcastle disease cases is “unknown or inconclusive,” WOAH stated.
WOAH offered an update on the situation in Poland two days after it announced that Sweden had been declared free of Newcastle disease.
The only other country with an active report on Newcastle disease on the WOAH website is Israel.
