The latest case of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) in the United States involved a commercial meat turkey flock in California.
The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) reported that on February 3, the presence of HPAI was confirmed in a flock of 22,200 turkeys in San Joaquin County, California.
So far in 2025, seven commercial flocks in California have been struck by HPAI. In 2024, California had 59 commercial flocks hit by HPAI, more than any other state. Three of those 59 cases were in San Joaquin County.
