U.S. Sen. John Boozman, R-Arkansas, has been selected as the chairman of the Senate Committee for Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry, while Sen. Amy Klobuchar, D-Minnesota, will be the ranking member.

Boozman, who had spent the past for years as the ranking member, moved into the chairmanship when Republicans took control of the U.S. Senate after the 2024 election. The position was previously held by Sen. Debbie Stabenow, D-Michigan, who did not seek re-election.

Stabenow’s retirement led to the selection of a new Democratic senator to assume a leadership position of the committee, which was Stabenow, a longtime member of the committee.

“As the new lead Democratic senator on the agriculture committee, I look forward to continuing my work with Chairman Boozman to support our farmers, ensure Americans can feed their families, and boost our rural economy and conservation efforts,” Klobuchar said.

With Klobuchar’s appointment, Minnesota – the nation’s largest turkey producer – has representation within the leadership of both the Senate and House agriculture committees.

It was earlier announced that Rep. Angie Craig, D-Minnesota, was named the ranking member of the House agriculture committee, while Glenn “GT” Thompson, R-Pennsylvania, would remain chairman.
