Wabash Valley Produce Inc. announced plans to open a US$63 million egg products processing plant in Dubois, County, Indiana, that will supply egg-based products to Tyson Foods’ Jimmy Dean breakfast brand.

The plant will be a renovation of a 54,000 square foot former Indiana Furniture Industries factory building that Wabash Valley purchased in 2022, according to a press release from the Dubois County Free Press. After renovations, the plant will be approximately 86,000 square feet.

Product from Wabash Valley’s existing egg-breaking facility located in the same area will be transferred to the new processing plant to produce egg patties, scrambled eggs and other egg products for Tyson Foods.

“We signed a long-term contract with our customer partner, Tyson, to supply additional value-added egg products for the Jimmy Dean breakfast brand,” stated Andy Seger, Wabash Valley Produce Chief Financial Officer and Senior Vice President of Sales. “This really represents a growth opportunity that doesn’t come along hardly ever.”

The target completion date for the plant is October 2024 and it is predicted to employ approximately 31 people.

Wabash Valley Produce is headquartered in Dubois County, close to the new construction, and plans to leverage its existing management infrastructure to support the plant. Additionally, it has an existing water treatment facility located in Dubois County but plans to expand it to accommodate the new capacity the plant will require.

“It would be one of the very few types of plants like this in the country,” Seger added. “We’d like to start construction yesterday.”
