Outstanding achievements in the egg industry came under the spotlight at the International Egg Commission (IEC)’s Global Leadership Conference, this year held in Venice, Italy.

The commission’s Dennis Wellstead Award for International Egg Person of the Year was awarded to Thor Stadil of Denmark. Stadil is co-founder and co-owner, along with his son, of Thornico, a global conglomerate that includes egg industry businesses Sanovo and Ovodan, amongst others.

The conference also saw the presentation of the Golden Egg Award for Marketing Excellence which, this year, went to Noble Foods of the U.K. for its Freshlay Farms Golden Yolkers rebrand and marketing campaign.

Innovation in the egg industry is recognized through the 365 Egg Innovation Award. The 2004 winner was Evova Foods Inc., of Canada, for its Egg-Cellent Protein Puffs, recognized for exceptional marketing and innovation, using egg white as the central ingredient to deliver a new, health nutritious snack.

The Clive Frampton Egg Products Company of the Year Award recognizes those who have made a significant contribution to the global egg processing industry, and this year it went to Ready Egg Products Ltd. of Northern Ireland for being one of the most successful entities in the sector.

Special recognition

Honorary Life Membership was granted to Peter Dean, former owner and chair of the U.K.’s Noble Foods.

Greg Hinton, then IEC Chairman, on granting the recognition, said: “Peter is recognized not only as being a pioneer for our industry but as a true gentleman – admired for his leadership and integrity.
