The Poultry Science Association Foundation recognizes the Andrew F. Giesen III Undergraduate Internship Program

The Poultry Science Association Foundation (PSA Foundation) acknowledged the Andrew F. Giesen III Family and Novus International as Ambassadors for establishing the Andrew F. Giesen III Undergraduate Internship Program during the Donor Reception of the PSA Annual Meeting in New Orleans, LA. Dr. Chris Knight accepted the plaque on behalf of Novus International. The visionary gift for the education of talented graduate students interested in poultry science was established through the PSA Foundation Charting Our Course – Securing Future Leadership for Poultry Campaign (Capital Campaign). The Andrew F. Giesen III Undergraduate Internships are awarded on a nationally competitive basis and provide students the opportunity to work with scientists in either industry or university laboratories for gaining scientific skills.

"Thanks to this internship Lesleigh Beer has had the opportunity to spend the summer in our laboratory (The University of Arkansas John Patrick Skeeles Poultry Health Laboratory). Hopefully the internship impacts her life as much as it impacted mine" stated Mr. Lucas Graham. Lucas, a member of the Class of 2015 Andrew F. Giesen III Summer Interns who is currently a M.S. candidate at the University of Arkansas, stated that his experience as a Giesen Intern prepared him for acceptance into graduate school.

"Undergraduate internships in the poultry industry are such an important avenue to inform and attract students to consider careers that may involve Poultry Science. Dr. Giesen generously shared his time to mentor young students interested in the poultry industry" stated Dr. Chris Knight, one of Drew's Novus International Colleagues. "His two children, Joe and Carrie, also found that their undergraduate internships helped guide their decisions on what graduate programs to pursue. The decision to focus the AFG III internship program on undergraduates was a no-brainer." 

The Giesen Family, wife Linda, son Joe, and daughter Carrie, were recognized during the PSA Awards Celebration Banquet, as Ambassador for their role in establishing this unique program. The students in the 2015 and 2016 Classes of Andrew F. Giesen Undergraduate Interns were also recognized during the Celebration.
