Cherkizovo Group, Russia's largest meat producer, ranked No. 1 in terms of sausage sales in the e-commerce channel. In 2022, this product category delivered a more than 1.5x growth in online sales in Russia.
According to the NielsenIQ analytics company, the turnover of Russian sausage retailers[1] grew by 12 % in 2022 to RUB 372.4 bn. Cherkizovo Group’s products had a share of 6.8 %, placing the company third among Russian sausage producers. Last year, the Group maintained its leadership in the categories of dry sausages and ham with shares of 21.7 % and 26.1 % respectively.
The most impressive sales of sausages in Russia came from the e-commerce channel, delivering a growth of 58.9 % to RUB 7.9 bn in 2022. In the fourth quarter of the year, Cherkizovo Group's sausages ranked first in terms of online sales, with a share of 12 % by value. In December, their share went up to as much as 12.5 %, which is 0.6 % p.p. ahead of the closest competitor.
“While e-commerce currently accounts for a small share of food sales, the channel has strong growth potential going forward. Russian consumers increasingly shop for groceries online as they come to appreciate the convenience of time-saving delivery services. As a result, ramping up presence in the e-commerce channel is a priority for us,” said Irina Kim, Ready Meals marketing director at Cherkizovo Trade House.
