Holly Dyer, director of processing at Peco Foods Inc., will retire this spring after almost 50 years of service.

“Holly Dyer is a legend in the poultry industry who has been a vital part of our company from its earliest days,” said Mark Hickman, chief executive officer of Peco, in announcing Dyer’s retirement, which will be effective April 4, 2009.

“We would not be where we are today without him.”

Dyer began his career in 1960 with the original Poultry and Egg Company. In 1968, when Peco founder Herman Hickman merged his hatchery with the egg company to create the present-day Peco Foods, Dyer was part of the first management team. As director of processing, he helped guide the company’s growth and build Peco’s reputation for quality and dependability.

Today Peco’s holdings include four kill plants, two further processing plants, three hatcheries and four feed mills located in Alabama and Mississippi.

“Over the years, Mr. Holly, as we’ve always called him, showed by example the importance of always treating employees fairly and respectfully,” said Peco board chairman Denny Hickman.

“There isn’t a better role model or mentor anywhere than Holly Dyer.”

In Mark Hickman’s words, “Holly Dyer’s value is beyond measure. We wish him a wonderful retirement and will always treasure his friendship and his service to our company.”
