1. Preventing and Responding to Foreign Material Contamination Incidents
Monday, January 29, 1 – 5 p.m.
Registration fee: $150

Foreign material contamination incidents — both real and alleged — can cost the meat and poultry industry millions of dollars each year. This workshop will address best practices for preventing foreign material contamination and corrective actions after an event. The workshop will also examine the latest forensic laboratory technologies available to aid an investigation conducted to confirm and identify whether a product is contaminated. Participants will discuss real case studies examining ways to communicate with customers and consumers.

2. Defend the Flock — Biosecurity Basics for Poultry & Egg Producers and Live Operations Personnel
Tuesday, January 30, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.

This first-time program will consist of four speakers with expertise in egg biosecurity, turkey biosecurity, knowledge of the recent avian influenza (AI) outbreaks, National Poultry Improvement Plan (NPIP) biosecurity and the use of hidden cameras in biosecurity.

3. Robotics in the Meat and Poultry Industry: Putting Technology to Work

Employers in the meat and poultry industry are well aware of labor issues and challenges and are increasingly exploring how the use of robotics can increase efficiency. As new technology is revealed that can help streamline processes, the options for using robotics continue to become more sophisticated. This session will discuss the current status and future direction of robotics in the meat and poultry industry, and will include a panel discussion of processors who are already implementing these technologies.

4. Wastewater Treatment Challenges for the Poultry and Egg Industry

Water is a necessary component of producing a safe and wholesome source of protein. While the poultry and the egg industries have a long history of efficiently treating the wastewater generated in poultry and egg processing plants, the industry consistently faces new challenges ranging from bacteria thresholds in storm water to the carryover of antimicrobial compounds into wastewater treatment plants. Attendees of this program will hear industry representatives, academia and consultants address issues that contribute to or create these new challenges.

5. Livestock Handling and Stunning to Optimize Animal Welfare and Regulatory Compliance
