Atria names Merja Leino sustainability vice president

Atria Group has named Merja Leino, Ph.D., as its executive vice president of sustainability.

Atria Group has named Merja Leino, Ph.D., as its executive vice president of sustainability.

The appointment is effective September 1. In her new capacity, Leino will be responsible for the continuous development and implementation of sustainability in Atria’s businesses.

Leino has had a long career with Atria Group, working in various positions.

She has previously worked as senior vice president of quality, product safety and CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) at Atria Finland. She has also served as senior vice president of Atria Finland's poultry business and convenience food business.

In her new role, Leino will be a member of the Atria Group Management Team and will report to the CEO of the company, Juha Gröhn. 

Headquartered in Finland, Atria is one of the largest food production companies in the Nordic and Baltic countries of Europe, as well as Russia. According to the WATTAgNet Top Poultry Companies Database, Atria has 18 locations in those countries. It holds a 31 percent market share in Finland.

The company recently released its financial results for the second quarter of 2019, in which it reported increases in net sales in Finland and Sweden, while its net sales in Russia were steady, and its net sales in Denmark and Estonia were down.
