Agri-food business Charoen Pokphand Foods (CP Foods) has become the first Thailand-based company to export frozen pasteurized liquid whole eggs to Japan.
The company held a launching ceremony for the first shipment from its processing plant located in central Thailand to Japan.
“The first shipment was approved due to CP Foods' high-tech production that complies with international standards,” stated Wanthanee Chamnarnshettakarn, CP Foods Head of Egg Processing, Bread and Ready to Eat Paet Rew Business.
According to Chamnarnshettakarn, Japan recognizing CP Foods for its liquid pasteurized eggs marks a significant milestone for Thailand’s livestock industry.
CP Foods' Ban Na egg processing plant produces liquid eggs and boiled eggs with a production capacity of 2 million eggs per day. Much of the company’s eggs are delivered to its food processing factories to be utilized in ready-to-eat meals.
CP Foods and cage-free egg production
In 2022, CP Foods announced its plan to increase its cage-free egg production to 20 million in 2022, an increase of 4 million eggs from 2021.
In the announcement, Somkid Wannalukkhee, CP Foods Senior Vice President of Egg Business in Thailand, explained the company’s goal was in line with its Animal Welfare Policy and would help in reaching the goals outlined in its 2030 Sustainability in Action strategy.
In 2021, the company became the first business in Thailand to be awarded national certification for its cage-free egg production. At that time, CP Foods said it intended to convert its entire layer business to cage-free egg production.
The company’s cage-free production increase aligns with its 2019 announcement on plans to expand into foreign markets, such as China, Vietnam, the Philippines, Russia and the U.S. The same year, the company’s Wang Somboon facility, located in central Thailand, was deemed the first cage-free farm in the country certified for cage-free production by the Department of Livestock Development.
