6 Tyson workers injured in traffic accident

A 15-passenger van that was transporting people to work at Tyson Foods plant in Wilkesboro, North Carolina, overturned.

Six Tyson Foods workers were injured when a 15-person passenger van overturned.

According to the Wilkes Record, around 4:45 p.m. on August 30, the van, which was transporting Tyson Foods employees to work at the company’s plant in Wilkesboro, overturned on U.S. 421 in Wilkesboro, near the Brushy Mountain Road exit.

Five passengers were transported to Atrium Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in North Wilkesboro, and one person was taken to Atrium Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in in Winston-Salem. There were other passengers in the van, but they refused treatment.

The accident caused traffic on both sides of the highway to be backed up.

Agency to respond to the accident include the Wilkesboro Police Department (WPD), Wilkes EMS, North Carolina Highway Patrol, Wilkes Sheriff’s Office and Wilkes Emergency Management.

The accident is being investigated by the WPD.
