The USPOULTRY Foundation proudly sponsored the National 4-H Poultry and Egg Conference at the Kentucky Fair and Exposition Center in Louisville. The event celebrated outstanding 4-H members from 24 states, showcasing their achievements in poultry learning activities while fostering essential life skills and promoting careers in the poultry industry.
Over 142 participants engaged in competitive events such as poultry judging, chicken and turkey barbecuing, an egg chef challenge, and an avian bowl (a poultry and egg jeopardy game). Additionally, industry leaders led a Poultry Careers workshop, offering insights into career paths and educational opportunities.
North Carolina's team claimed the top spot, with Minnesota's Naomi Wiechman earning the title of the overall individual champion. Barbara Jenkins, vice president of education and student programs for USPOULTRY and executive director of the USPOULTRY Foundation, presented the awards.
"Supporting student outreach programs like the National 4-H Poultry and Egg Conference reflects the USPOULTRY Foundation's commitment to attracting talented young individuals to pursue rewarding careers in our industry. Encouraging these youths to consider the poultry and egg sectors is crucial for our industry's future," noted Jenkins.
