Latin American Poultry Summit was held at 2024 IPPE

Dr. Catya Itzel Martínez Rivas of the World Organization for Animal Health was a featured speaker.

The Latin American Poultry Summit, part of the 2024 International Production & Processing Expo (IPPE), featured insights from Dr. Catya Itzel Martínez Rivas of the World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH). Celebrating its centenary, WOAH focuses on developing global standards for animal health and welfare. Dr. Martínez highlighted the role of Organización Mundial de Sanidad Animal (OMSA), comprising 183 countries, in promoting norms, transparency, solidarity, food equity and veterinary services.

Dr. Sula Alves, technical director of the Brazilian Animal Protein Association (ABPA), shared Brazil's success in managing avian influenza in commercial farms since 2000. She outlined specific biosecurity measures and steps for farmers to maintain avian influenza-free status, emphasizing state registration, veterinarian supervision and farm health control.

Gary Flory, a consultant at GA Flory Consulting LLC, explored composting as an eco-friendly method for dead bird disposal. Stressing the need for expert oversight, he highlighted the benefits of composting, including low cost, simplicity and prompt disposal.
