USPOULTRY releases new guide

Information intends to improve overall production efficiency.

USPOULTRY has released a new Statistical Process Control (SPC) Applications Guide as part of its technical reference series. This guide is designed to help poultry production facilities enhance their Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) plans and improve overall production efficiency by providing a framework for implementing SPC techniques.

Statistical Process Control (SPC) is a valuable tool in a production environment that allows managers and supervisors to identify trends in real time, providing them with the ability to respond proactively to potential quality or safety issues. By applying various statistical methods, production managers can gain deeper insights into their processes, enabling them to optimize production and ensure consistent product quality.

Applications of SPC in Poultry Production:

  • Temperature Monitoring: Keeping track of temperature fluctuations to maintain product safety
  • Product Attributes: Analyzing variations in product characteristics to ensure quality consistency
  • Chemical Concentrations: Monitoring and adjusting chemical levels used in processing to meet safety standards

USPOULTRY’s new guide serves as a comprehensive resource for understanding and applying SPC in various aspects of poultry production. It provides a framework suitable for a range of processes, aiding facilities in their annual reassessments or as-needed reviews of their HACCP plans.

Key Benefits of the SPC Applications Guide:

  • Enhances the understanding of trends in the production process
  • Supports proactive management of quality and safety issues
  • Improves operational efficiency by optimizing production processes
  • Offers a structured approach to implementing SPC techniques within production environments

While the guide offers a robust framework for SPC application, it acknowledges that not every possible scenario can be covered. Therefore, it is best suited for ongoing production processes but can be adapted for various circumstances as needed.

Availability: The SPC Applications Guide is exclusively available to USPOULTRY members. To access the guide, members should visit the USPOULTRY Training Resources webpage and navigate to the Food Safety tab.
