The Animal Agriculture Alliance has released two updated reports addressing the current landscape of radical veganism and animal rights activism in the U.S. These reports, titled "Major Animal Activist Groups Web" and "Radical Vegan Activism," shed light on the increasing coordination and extreme actions within the movement aimed at ending animal agriculture.
Hannah Thompson-Weeman, the president and CEO of the Alliance, emphasized the importance of protecting consumer choice in food products, stating that "meat, dairy, poultry, eggs, and seafood play a critical role in our health and nutrition." She warned that activist groups are working to eliminate these food options by targeting livestock and poultry farmers, aiming to disrupt food production systems.
Key statements from prominent vegan and animal rights leaders reveal their long-term objectives, including ending speciesism and abolishing industrial animal agriculture. The Radical Vegan Activism report notes that in 2023, activists conducted 386 actions against the agriculture industry, with methods ranging from vandalism to animal theft and harassment.
Additionally, the Major Animal Activist Groups Web highlights the financial power behind these movements, with the organizations raising more than $800 million annually. The web also features new groups, such as the Center for Responsible Food Business and Pro-Animal Future, that are becoming increasingly influential in anti-animal agriculture efforts.
