Hormel Foods announces its commitment to fighting food insecurity by partnering with organizations across the U.S. during Hunger Action Month. In September, the company donated over $450,000 in financial and product contributions to nonprofit partners as part of its efforts to create a more food-secure world.
Jim Snee, chairman, president and CEO of Hormel Foods, emphasized the importance of supporting food security, especially during Hunger Action Month, stating, "As a global branded food company, we are dedicated to addressing food insecurity, and delivering on that promise is never more important than during Hunger Action Month."
Key Initiatives During Hunger Action Month:
Nourishing Champions Project:Hormel Foods collaborated with United Way of Mower County and the Hometown Food Security Project, enlisting the Austin High School student body to assemble 24,000 snack packs, weighing 9,000 pounds. These packs supported students in after-school programs and were also distributed to local food shelves, ensuring access to nutritious snacks.
Community Plant Donations:For the 14th year in a row, Hormel Foods granted each of its production facilities $10,000 to donate to a local hunger-relief organization, benefiting 45 organizations across the U.S.
Hometown Celebration Concert:Hormel Foods held a musical event in its hometown, encouraging attendees to support food security through donations. Hormel Foods matched these contributions, with all proceeds benefiting local food banks in Mower County.
Katie Clark, senior vice president and chief communications officer at Hormel Foods, expressed gratitude for the company's team members and volunteers, stating, "This has been an incredible month, and none of it would have been possible without the work of our valued team members and volunteers."
Ongoing Commitment to Food Security:
Hormel Foods continues its global impact programming, having contributed $12.5 million in 2023 to uplift communities, including $10 million dedicated to hunger-relief efforts, providing an equivalent of 9.2 million meals. The company’s ongoing efforts contribute to its 20 By 30 Challenge goals, which aim to deliver 70 million meals and establish a food-secure community program by 2030.
