The North Carolina Poultry Federation (NCPF) has appointed Cowan Johnson of House of Raeford Farms as its president for the 2024-25 term. The announcement was made during the NCPF’s annual meeting held in Greensboro, NC. The NCPF, which advocates for North Carolina’s poultry industry, plays a significant role in supporting producers and processors of chicken, turkey and egg products across the state.

Johnson, who served as vice president of NCPF prior to this appointment, is the president of House of Raeford’s Ready-to-Cook and Further Processing Divisions and president of sales for the company. He also sits on the corporation’s board of directors and oversees operations at House of Raeford’s largest ready-to-cook processing facility in Wallace, NC.

In accepting the role, Johnson expressed his commitment to advancing the interests of the North Carolina poultry industry. “It is an honor to accept this important role, and I look forward to our federation making great strides over the next year in support of the North Carolina poultry industry,” said Johnson. He also highlighted the personal significance of following in the footsteps of his father, Bob Johnson, current CEO of House of Raeford, and his late grandfather, Marvin Johnson, both of whom previously served as NCPF presidents.

A 23-year veteran of House of Raeford, Johnson has held numerous roles within the company, including sales, maintenance, plant management and more. In addition, he owns and operates his own chicken houses, growing birds for House of Raeford’s operations in Rose Hill and Wallace, NC.

Along with his leadership roles at House of Raeford, Cowan Johnson is also an active member of the National Chicken Council's board of directors.
