In celebration of its third annual Little Changes Day on November 7, Maple Leaf Foods, the world’s first major carbon-neutral food company, is launching the “Grow Your Own Greens” challenge. Developed in partnership with Earth Rangers, this new online initiative encourages families across Canada to embrace sustainable practices with simple, at-home activities that spotlight the importance of regenerative agriculture.
According to a recent Maple Leaf Foods survey, 94% of Canadians care about protecting the environment, with 84% agreeing that working together is essential for tackling climate change. Little Changes Day, created to mark Maple Leaf Foods' carbon-neutral anniversary, aims to provide accessible, climate-friendly resources to help Canadians take impactful, eco-conscious actions. This year’s 'Grow Your Own Greens' challenge offers fun, informative activities through the Earth Rangers App, where families can learn to:
- Grow greens from kitchen scraps like lettuce stalks and herb stems
- Create indoor planters using recycled materials for an eco-friendly touch
- Start indoor planting with tips on the best planters, soil, and veggies to grow indoors
Maple Leaf Foods' Vice President of Sustainability and Shared Value, Joe McMahan, shared, “Little Changes Day encourages Canadians to participate in our journey to protect the planet. The 'Grow Your Own Greens' challenge teaches sustainable practices to support a resilient food supply, starting with something as simple as growing lettuce in your kitchen.”
The challenge, part of the wider Earth Rangers Future Farmer Mission, connects children and families with sustainable farming knowledge to foster a climate-conscious mindset. Maple Leaf Foods’ continued partnership with Earth Rangers has empowered over 200,000 young members to take eco-friendly actions, with more than 3,000 completed actions in this program to date.
How to Participate: The Future Farmer Mission and the new “Grow Your Own Greens” challenge will be available for free starting November 7 through the Earth Rangers App. For more information about Maple Leaf Foods' commitment to sustainability, visit MapleLeafFoods.com/our-commitments.
