Hormel Foods awards scholarship money

The program supports veterans and active military members pursuing degrees in culinary arts or foodservice management.

Hormel Foods has awarded its 2024 Hormel Heroes Scholarships, totaling $10,000 each, to two outstanding students with military backgrounds: Vergie Terrell and Jorge Mendez. The program, in partnership with the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation (NRAEF), supports veterans and active military members pursuing degrees in culinary arts or foodservice management.

Vergie Terrell, currently a U.S. Army member and junior at Houston Community College, plans to open a foodservice operation that serves diverse and innovative cuisine. Expressing her gratitude, Terrell said, “Hormel’s support has motivated me to strive for excellence and pursue my culinary dreams.”

Jorge Mendez, a U.S. Army reservist and junior at New Mexico State University, aims to establish his own restaurant. “Hormel Foods’ generosity is helping me achieve my dreams, and I’m grateful for this opportunity,” Mendez shared.

Since its launch in 2019, the Hormel Heroes Scholarship Program has provided $180,000 in scholarships to military-connected students.
