Whetstone Distribution acquires Anmar Foods

Collaboration expands Whetstone’s product offerings, customer base and geographic presence in Chicago and beyond.

Whetstone Distribution, a platform of premium regional food distributors, has acquired Anmar Foods, a prominent Chicago-based meat distributor and processor. This acquisition marks Whetstone’s third in the past six months, following the additions of Fulton Market and Pritzlaff Wholesale Meats, further solidifying its position as a leader in the Midwest's food distribution sector.

Founded in 1994 by Michael Casper and Robert Martinelli, Anmar Foods has built a reputation for delivering high-quality proteins, including beef, turkey, chicken, pork, lamb, sausages and smoked products. Serving the Chicago metro area, Anmar combines full-service meat distribution with processing capabilities, catering to culinary professionals with a diverse product portfolio.

"Our mission is to provide the best protein for chefs to work with," said Casper. "Joining forces with Whetstone will enable Anmar to expand its reach while maintaining our dedication to quality and customer satisfaction."

This partnership expands Whetstone’s product offerings, customer base and geographic presence in Chicago and beyond. Don McIntyre, CEO of Whetstone, emphasized Anmar’s importance to the company’s growth:

"Anmar’s extensive network and commitment to serving culinary professionals aligns perfectly with Whetstone’s mission. This acquisition enhances our ability to deliver exceptional service and products while deepening our presence in Chicago."

Whetstone’s Chicago network now includes Moesle Meats, Queen Foods, Fulton Market, Pritzlaff Wholesale Meats and Anmar Foods.

Backed by Shore Capital Partners, Whetstone is focused on fostering long-term growth for its distributors. Jeff Smart, principal at Shore Capital Partners, remarked:

"Anmar Foods is an ideal addition to the Whetstone portfolio, exemplifying the quality and service we aim to deliver. We’re excited to see Whetstone’s continued growth and impact in the food distribution space."
