Governor Jared Polis and First Gentleman Marlon Reis carried on a delightful Colorado tradition by pardoning four turkeys—Fred, Lady Riketa Featherington, Dinger and Rockette—in a festive ceremony at the Colorado State Capitol. The event highlighted the importance of local agriculture and encouraged Coloradans to shop locally this holiday season.
Joined by Lt. Governor Dianne Primavera, Colorado Department of Agriculture Commissioner Kate Greenberg, and Colorado State FFA officers, Governor Polis emphasized the significance of Colorado’s agricultural community: “I am thrilled to pardon our four feathered friends who will be gleefully gobbling as they waddle—well, drive—to their new home in Adams County. Colorado’s farmers and ranchers provide quality products for all Coloradans and keep our agricultural sector thriving. Happy Thanksgiving to all.”
The four turkeys were sourced from local farms:
- Fred, a male turkey from Jodar Farms in Fort Collins, known for supplying top-quality products to Fort Collins’ restaurants
- Lady Riketa Featherington, Dinger and Rockette, hens provided by Hayden Fresh Farms in Steamboat Springs, a community staple for over 25 years
Following the pardon, the turkeys were transported to their forever home at Broken Shovels Farm Sanctuary, where they will join other rescued animals.
