The Maple Leaf Centre for Food Security announces new board member

Neil Hetherington spent 16 years as CEO of Habitat for Humanity.

The Maple Leaf Centre for Food Security announces the appointment of Neil Hetherington, chief executive officer of the Daily Bread Food Bank, to its board of directors.

"Neil brings decades of frontline experience addressing social justice issues and is a leading advocate for public policies aimed at reducing food insecurity," said Lynda Kuhn, chair of the Centre. "His expertise will inform and strengthen our efforts to combat the growing food insecurity crisis."

Neil Hetherington has been CEO of Daily Bread Food Bank since January 2018. Under his leadership, the organization supplies fresh and shelf-stable food to 129 member agencies across Toronto and conducts extensive research on the causes and effects of food insecurity.

Before joining Daily Bread, Hetherington spent 16 years as CEO of Habitat for Humanity in both Toronto and New York City. He also served two years as CEO of Dixon Hall, a multi-service agency in Toronto. Hetherington began his career in project management at Tridel Construction before transitioning to the non-profit sector.

Founded in 2016, the Maple Leaf Centre for Food Security is a registered charity dedicated to reducing food insecurity in Canada by 50% by 2030. The Centre focuses on advocating for public policies, supporting community programs, and building knowledge to foster sustainable food security. The Centre is governed by a board of directors, including five independent experts.
