A commercial duck flock in the state of New York is the latest instance of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) to be confirmed.
The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) reported that the presence of HPAI was confirmed in a flock of 101,000 ducks in Suffolk County on January 17.
Prior to this, the only other flock described by APHIS as commercial to be struck by HPAI in New York during the 2022-25 outbreak was an upland gamebird operation, also in Suffolk County. In that situation, which was confirmed in March 2022, 8,500 birds were involved.
In addition to New York, the following states have had commercial flocks struck by HPAI so far in 2025: Ohio, Delaware, Michigan, California, Maryland, Missouri, Indiana, Georgia, Minnesota and North Carolina.
