Richard Maatman will take over as Hendrix Genetics’ CEO and chairman of the executive committee, effective April 1.

In 2022 Hendrix Genetics announced the appointment of Maatman as deputy CEO, stating at the time that Maatman would succeed Antoon van den Berg as CEO in the course of 2023.

After a successful introduction and transition period, van den Berg decided to step down from his positions and hand over his responsibilities to Maatman.

Maatman has extensive international management experience in agribusiness, animal breeding and animal nutrition. After graduating from Wageningen Agriculture University in 1993, where he obtained a master’s degree in animal science with specialization in animal breeding, he joined Nutreco/Euribrid as Geneticist of Hisex Layers. From 1998 until 2000 he worked as a geneticist for Hendrix Poultry Breeders, the predecessor of Hendrix Genetics. From 2003 until 2007 he was general manager of the broiler breeding activities Hybro which was combined in 2008 with Cobb-Vantress. From 2007 until the end of 2022, he held various senior management positions within Nutreco. In his most recent role as managing director he was leading the Trouw Nutrition activities for Europe, Central-Asia and Middle East.

Maatman joined Hendrix Genetics per first of January 2023 as deputy CEO.

While van den Berg is stepping down from those roles, he will remain an actively involved shareholder in the company.

With this change, the Executive Committee will consist of four members:

  • Chief Executive Officer and chairman: Richard Maatman
  • Chief Business Development Officer: Raf Beeren
  • Chief Financial Officer: Roger van Biljouw
  • Chief Innovation & Technology Officer: Johan van Arendonk

Antoon van den Berg and Thijs Hendrix  founded Hendrix Genetics in 2005, a leading multi-species animal genetics and technology company that provides the animal protein value chain with innovative and sustainable genetic solutions to support the global food challenge.

In March 2022 the company announced a joint venture with Paine Schwartz and its affiliated co-investors that own 50% in the company. Hendrix Genetics’ co-founders, Thijs Hendrix and van den Berg, also maintain a 50% ownership position in the company and work in partnership with Paine Schwartz.
