U.K. meat and poultry company Cranswick is taking part in an initiative to recycle its convenience foods employees’ personal protective equipment (PPE).

Cranswick is partnering with a company called Food Clean, which specializes in effective PPE recycling and disposal. Through their partnership with Cranswick, Food Clean collects the used boots and garments through containers across the Cranswick workplace, before they are collected and taken to be recycled. Once this process has taken place, the recycled materials are then used to make playground surfaces and athletic fields across the U.K.

Through this project, Cranswick says it has diverted a significant amount of waste from being incinerated.

“As a business, we constantly strive to make changes and use considerate ingenuity to do what is best for the world around us, and this new initiative is just a small part of that,” the company stated in a press release.

Cranswick, according to information from the WATTPoultry.com Top Poultry Companies Database, is the sixth largest poultry producer in the United Kingdom. In 2023, the company, which is also involved in pork production, slaughtered 5.9 million broilers.
