Plukon Food Group acquires Spain’s Sambau

Family-owned poultry product processor and distrubor formed in Madrid in 1986.

Netherlands-based Plukon Food Group has acquired 100% of the Shares of Sambau, a Spanish processor and distributor of poultry products.

Headquartered in Madrid, Spain, Sambau is a family-owned poultry business that was founded in 1986. According to a press release from Plukon, Sambau specializes in serving the traditional Spanish poultry market. It employs 56 people and achieved a revenue of approximately EUR21 million (US$22.5 million) in 2023.

“Combining the knowledge and experience of Sambau with our own operations will create valuable synergies for our customers,” said Kees Kraijenoord, CEO of Plukon Food Group. We are looking forward to this new cooperation in Spain.”

The Sambau acquisition is the latest in a series of recent merger and acquisition activity for Plukon Food Group.

Earlier in 2024, Plukon announced agreements it had reached to acquire Polish poultry company Algas SP and Spanish poultry producer Redondo. In 2023, Plukon acquired a 51% stake in ter Maten.

Plukon Food Group has 34 locations in six countries and achieved a turnover of EUR3.1 billion in 2023. The company has approximately 9,500 employees.

During the past year, Plukon slaughtered 462.8 million broilers, making it the fourth largest poultry producer in Europe. The company is also involved in turkey production.
