Pig International hosts PEDV panel discussion at IPPE in Atlanta

Since first appearing in the US in the spring of 2013, the porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDV) has spread to twenty states and with an average of around 120 new cases reported each week by December. Pig International, a magazine published by WATT Global Media will sponsor a panel discussion of veterinarians at the VIV International Pork Production Summit 2014 USA which will take place on Wednesday January 29, 2014 which is being held in conjunction with IPPE in Atlanta.

Pig International, a magazine published by WATT Global Media will sponsor a panel discussion of veterinarians at the VIV International Pork Production Summit 2014 USA which will take place on Wednesday January 29, 2014 which is being held in conjunction with IPPE in Atlanta.

Confirmed participants in the PEDV panel discussion include Dr. Mathew Turner, Prestage Farms, Dr. Mary Battrell, Murphy Brown LLC, and Dr. Dennis Villani, consulting veterinarian. Dr. Turner is a production swine veterinarian with Prestage Farms based out of Clinton, NC. Prestage Farms produces pork in North Carolina, South Carolina, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Texas, and Iowa with a total of 170,000 sows in production. Turner serves on the board of directors for the American Association of Swine Veterinarians, is an adjunct faculty member of NCSU-College of Veterinary Medicine

Dr. Mary Battrell is a senior production veterinarian for Murphy-Brown LLC in eastern North Carolina. She started working for Browns of Carolina in 1996 has been employed by Murphy-Brown since its founding. She received her DVM and a MS degree in Swine Production Medicine at Iowa State University.

Dr. Dennis Villani has over 20 years of experience as a veterinarian working in the United States and Canadian pork industry. He currently owns All About Swine LLC and Great Lakes Swine Veterinary Services Inc., consulting with pork production systems in Indiana, Ohio, Michigan, Ontario, and Mississippi.  

The PEDV panel discussion will be held from 3:00-4:00 pm EST in room B-305 of the Georgia World Congress Center. Immediately following the PEDV panel discussion the Pork Production Summit Plenary Closing Conference will begin at 4:15 pm with the presentation:
