Egg producer Rembrandt Foods recently acquired precooked egg products company Artisan Kitchens.
Artisan Kitchens processes over 80 million eggs annually into precooked egg bites and omelets under the Artisan Kitchens brand, a private label and for other co-manufacturing customers. It supplies to the retail, convenience and foodservice outlets.
News company Perishable News explained that the everyday sales and operations of Artisan Kitchens would remain under Artisan Kitchens management. The formal announcement is listed on investment firm AGR Partners’ website.
“This is a natural progression that marries unique product and processing competencies, which will open opportunities within each company’s current customer base,” stated Nick Pugleasa, Rembrandt Foods Vice President, Go-to-Market.
According to the egg producer, the acquisition is part of its ongoing strategy to support the growth of its protein and breakfast categories.
“Bringing Artisan Kitchens and Rembrandt Foods together is a highly strategic move for our business strategy,” added Andrew Herr, Rembrandt Foods CEO. “We are so excited to be working with all the stakeholders in Artisan Kitchens and look forward to developing our future in the precooked egg market.”
According to WATT Poultry’s 2024 Top Egg Companies, Rembrandt Foods, based in Iowa, is the 36th largest egg producer in the U.S. with two million layers reported in December 2023. It produces conventional and cage-free, frozen, liquid and dried egg products and precooked eggs. Rembrandt supplies egg ingredients to food manufacturers, foodservice and pet food manufacturers.
AGR Partners and Rembrandt Foods
In 2022, AGR Partners invested in Rembrandt Foods, according to the egg producer’s website.
Just before AGR listed Rembrandt Foods on its investments page, the ownership of the producer came into question after Iowa-based news company Storm Lake Times Pilot reported that Rembrandt had not transferred possession in July 2023. However, the egg producer’s website states that AGR invested in Rembrandt in 2022.
