How the Giants QB earned the nickname “Tommy Cutlets”

The nickname refers to the football player’s favorite meal his mom prepares for him.

New York Giants quarterback Tommy DeVito is getting media coverage, and even a new nickname, for his favorite meal chicken cutlets.

DeVito originally made headlines after he revealed that he still lives at home with his parents in New Jersey.

According to DeVito, living with his parents is great because he does not have to worry about doing laundry or what he is eating for dinner. “Chicken cutlets and all that is waiting for me when I get there," he said.

During the Giants' game against the Patriots on November 26th, running back Saquon Barkley called DeVito "Tommy Cutlets," as he took the field, and it seems to have stuck longer than intended.

A couple of days later, the nickname resonated with fans at a sandwich shop in New Jersey called Primo Hoagies, in which they requested he sign his name as "Tommy Cutlets" on t-shirts and other clothing items, according to one tweet.

DeVito seems to be onboard with it, though. On December 7th, the Giants’ official X page posted a video of DeVito and popular food influencer Cugine in which they rated different Italian dishes. In the video, he rated chicken cutlets as his favorite entrée and added that he particularly enjoyed chicken cutlet vodka parm sandwiches.

"You can do anything with a cutlet," DeVito stated in the video. "Sandwich or dinner or breakfast. Laying on the table like this, just grab one and go."

However, the story does not stop there. On December 12th, prior to the Giants’ upset win over the Green Bay Packers, DeVito’s family tailgate featured 300 chicken cutlets, according to one X user.

I’ll be looking forward to seeing if DeVito’s cutlet persona continues, and if any restaurants are going to capitalize on the joke and offer a “Tommy Cutlet” on the menu. Fame can be fleeting in the Big Apple, but its entertaining when a small comment leads to a cascade of events, and in this case, it happens to be beneficial for the poultry industry.
