First Lady of the U.S. Jill Biden toured Outward Farms’ egg facility on Friday, October 13th, to celebrate World Egg Day and learn more about the egg industry’s production process.

Outward Farms, which produces organic cage-free, free-range and pasture-raised eggs, is a third-generation, family-owned egg farm based in Raymond, Ohio. Sandra Lausecker, Outward Farms founder and CEO and Nature Pure Egg Farm CEO, and marketing organization American Egg Board (AEB), hosted the First Lady throughout the tour.

The tour gave the First Lady and other guests a detailed look at Outward Farms’ operations and covered aspects of egg production, including biosecurity and food safety protocols, how the farm protects itself against highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI), egg washing and inspection and transportation to its customers.

Emily Metz, AEB President and CEO, stated: “This is a big day for egg farmers across the country. We are honored and absolutely thrilled—on World Egg Day—to offer the First Lady of the United States a front-row seat to experience the amazing dedication that egg farmers, like the Lauseckers at Outward Farms, give in their daily work to annually produce the 100 billion wholesome, nutritious eggs that Americans count on and love.”

The White House and AEB

In addition to showcasing how the U.S. egg industry works to feed consumers, Metz said the tour solidified the partnership between AEB and the White House. The two host the annual White House Easter Egg Roll, which is the White House’s largest public event and represents the U.S. commercial egg industry.

Lausecker said, “The opportunity to showcase our innovative approach to egg farming, sustainability efforts, such as renewable energy and a unique manure management program, feature an overview of our future Education Center, and share the incredible work that U.S. egg farmers do each day to bring nutritious, high-quality eggs to Americans makes me very proud.”

“We take the health and safety of our birds and disease prevention extremely seriously, and worked to ensure that this very special tour could be accomplished while maintaining the highest levels of biosecurity and disease prevention,” added Lausecker.
