Brazil’s poultry meat exports have been dramatically higher during June, reports the Center for Advanced Studies on Applied Economics (CEPEA).
Brazilian exports by volume have performed poorly over recent months, with shipments to foreign markets coming in below forecasts, although the country’s weaker currency has meant that income for the sector has remained healthy.
However, CEPEA notes, if the level of shipments recorded during the first three weeks of June continues through to the end of the month, Brazil’s poultry meat exports could reach 360,000 tons, beating all records.
The U.S. poultry industry has been locked out of many international markets due to ongoing difficulties with avian influenza, and while CEPEA offers no explanation of why exports of poultry meat exports from Brazil - which remains free from bird flu - have suddenly jumped, those countries that previously sourced from the U.S. need new sources of supply.
It goes on to note that the country’s integrators are looking for new sources of supply and that the price of live birds in the country is continuing to rise.
