U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Under Secretary for Trade and Foreign Agricultural Affairs Alexis M. Taylor and representatives from the poultry, feed and grain industries are in New Delhi, India, to launch a USDA-sponsored agribusiness trade mission.
Taylor is leading a delegation of officials from 47 U.S. agribusiness and farm organizations and 11 state departments of agriculture seeking to develop and expand business opportunities with importers in India.
Among those 47 businesses and organizations participating in the trade mission are:
- Culver Duck Farms
- Indiana Soybean Alliance and Indiana Corn Marketing Council
- Indiana State Poultry Association
- Iowa Turkey Federation
- Texas Grain Sorghum Producers
- United Sorghum Checkoff Program
- U.S. Grains Council
- U.S. Soybean Export Council
“As the world’s most-populous country and fifth-largest economy, India is primed for continued growth as a top destination for U.S. food and agriculture products,” Taylor said. “With a growing middle class that’s expected to exceed 660 million by 2030, India presents a strong consumer-oriented market where exports from American agribusinesses and producers can flourish.”
Throughout the week, mission participants can look forward to reinvigorating existing business relationships and forging new connections with local importers.
The United States and India enjoy a long history of agricultural trade and this trade mission provides an opportunity to enhance that bilateral relationship, the USDA stated. A recent demonstration of this partnership was India’s reduction in tariffs on a variety of U.S. agricultural products, including poultry, vegetables, fruits, pulses and tree nuts.
Also taking part are California Secretary of Food and Agriculture Karen Ross, Georgia Commissioner of Agriculture Tyler Harper, Idaho Director of Agriculture Chanel Tewalt, Maryland Secretary of Agriculture Kevin Atticks, Mississippi Commissioner of Agriculture and Commerce Andy Gipson, New Mexico Secretary of Agriculture Jeff M. Witte, North Dakota Commissioner of Agriculture Doug Goehring, and officials from the Indiana, Minnesota, Tennessee and Wisconsin state departments of agriculture.
