Moy Park introduces new sustainable product

Packaging tray drastically reduces the company's plastic consumption.

Moy Park, in collaboration with packaging experts Klöckner Pentaplast (kp), is proud to unveil a groundbreaking tray range, 'kp Elite' that embodies end-to-end sustainability.

Crafted from recycled Polyethylene Terephthalate (rPET), the 'kp Elite' tray combines clarity, strength and lightness in a single package. As a Modified Atmosphere Packaging (MAP) solution, it extends product shelf life, curbing food waste and is recyclable through standard kerbside collection systems.

This addition to Moy Park’s sustainable packaging lineup slashes the company’s plastic consumption by an additional 50 tons, propelling it closer to its goal of transitioning entirely to mono-material (recyclable) plastic trays.

Matt Harris, Moy Park's head of packaging, remarked on the launch, stating, “Sustainable packaging is pivotal in preserving, protecting, and containing our food, and kp Elite is an exemplary solution. Not only is it 100% recyclable, but it's also fashioned from recycled materials, achieving a reduction in plastic weight.”

Moreover, Moy Park is poised to meet its transition deadline to mono-material plastic trays well in advance of the 2025 target set by On-Pack Recycling Label (OPRL), ensuring continued recyclability of its poultry trays at kerbside.

In addition to the tray, Moy Park has integrated kp’s innovative lidding film into its packaging portfolio, augmenting its sustainability profile. The lidding film incorporates 30% post-consumer recycled plastic, lessening dependence on virgin plastic.

Earlier this year, Moy Park celebrated a significant milestone in its sustainable packaging journey, reducing overall packaging by 10% in the past 12 months. This achievement is a testament to the company’s comprehensive strategy focused on Removal, Reduction, Recycling, and Research, all contributing to its commitment to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2040.
