Executive director of the NIAA to speak at upcoming summit

J. Jones will address industry issues at event in May.

J. Jones, executive director of the National Institute for Animal Agriculture (NIAA), will lead attendees in identifying animal agriculture’s “big, hairy, audacious goal” (BHAG) in the closing session of the Animal Agriculture Alliance’s 2024 Stakeholders Summit. The event, scheduled for May 8-9 in Kansas City, Mo., will close registration on May 3. A virtual recording pass is available for those unable to attend in person. Animal agriculture, boasting millennia of successes in the food system, is poised to define its BHAG–aspirational goals that inspire innovation and creativity. In the session titled “Crossing the Finish Line: What is Animal Agriculture’s BHAG?,” Jones will explore why a collective BHAG is essential for the industry’s continued creativity and innovation in today’s food system.

Hannah Thompson-Weeman, president and CEO of the Animal Agriculture Alliance, emphasized the importance of forward-thinking goals: “While we’ve made incredible strides in areas such as animal welfare and environmental stewardship, there’s always room for improvement. Identifying our BHAG now ensures that animal agriculture continues to lead in innovation and progress.”

Jones, known for his analytical leadership, spearheads NIAA’s efforts to drive positive change in the food system. With degrees in animal science and industry and international agriculture from Kansas State University, Jones is passionate about collaborating with stakeholders to advance animal agriculture.
