Andrew Joret has been re-elected as Chairman of the British Egg Industry Council (BEIC), following the Annual General Meeting of the Council on June 19.
The role of BEIC Chairman is held by the Chairman of the National Egg Marketing Association (NEMAL), to which role Joret was elected in 2012. Joret is also Chairman of the Lion Technical Committee, which is responsible for the Lion Code of Practice.
The BEIC also re-elected the Office Holders at the AGM. Elwyn Griffiths, representing the British Egg Products Association, continues as BEIC Deputy Chairman; Duncan Priestner, representing the National Farmers’ Union, and James Baxter, representing the British Free Range Egg Producers Association, remain joint BEIC Vice-Chairmen. Jeffrey Vergerson, representing the British Egg Association, is the BEIC Treasurer, and Mark Williams, Chief Executive of the British Egg Industry Council, continues as Secretary.
Joret said: “It’s an exciting time for the egg industry and I’m delighted and honored to continue as Chairman in the company of some of the industry’s greatest servants.
“The British love affair with eggs is going from strength to strength, sales are up, young people are eating more, consumers are increasingly aware of their nutritional benefits, and runny eggs are back on the menu for all following the Food Standards Agency change in egg safety advice for Lion eggs. And to top off the good news, there is still plenty of room for consumption to increase further.”
The British Egg Industry Council was set up in 1986 to represent the UK egg industry. Its members comprise the 11 major organisations concerned with the egg industry. It is funded by voluntary subscriptions.
