The third annual Avian Influenza Forum, held in Canberra, Australia, reviewed the nation's preparedness and response capacity for avian influenza, according to information from the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry.
The forum discussed topics such as the continuing global avian influenza, H1N1 situation and progress on initiatives such as wild bird surveillance and emergency vaccine contingency supply arrengements.
The "National Farm Biosecurity Manual for Poultry Production" was officially launched at the forum. Dr. Andy Carroll, Australian chief veterinary officer, said the manual is an important step toward national preparedness against AI and other poultry diseases.
The event was attended by leaders from the poultry industry, the Australian Animal Health laboratory, Animal Health Australia and government officials.
