CFO continues its Cares Food Bank Donation Program
Ontario chicken farmers maintain their hunger-relief outreach strategy
The Chicken Farmers of Ontario (CFO) Board of Directors donated on behalf of Ontario chicken farmers at Premier Wynne’s Easter food drive held at Queen’s Park on April 13. The donation was made possible by Ontario’s chicken farming families who are taking part in the CFO Cares Food Bank Donation Program.
“CFO Cares is designed to enable farmers to donate premium Ontario chicken, from our farms to communities across the province,” said Ed Benjamins, Chair, Chicken Farmers of Ontario. It is the goodwill of our farmers and partnerships with the Ontario Association of Food Banks, Ontario processors and organizations like the Toronto Daily Bread Food Bank that really make this program possible.”
The CFO Cares program was launched in 2015 and has received overwhelming support from the farmer-member community. Last year, CFO Cares provided over 850,000 meals to Ontarians in need. With more than 250 farmers enrolled in the program on an annual basis, and as the program continues to grow, it is anticipated that CFO Cares will provide over 1,000,000 chicken meals for hunger-relief in 2017.
“We know that there is not enough fresh protein circulating throughout Ontario’s food banks,” said Rob Dougans, President and CEO, Chicken Farmers of Ontario. “The CFO Cares Food Bank Donation Program ensures that a steady supply of healthy, high quality, locally-grown chicken gets to those in need—at times when they need it the most. It is the fundamentals of supply management that enable the CFO Board to administer such a value-creating program.”
