Chinese broiler breeding company, Jinghai, seeks strategic partner

Company has 28 breeder units.

Jinghai Poultry Industry Group Co. Ltd., a broiler breeding company in Jiangsu, China, is seeking a strategic partner.

Founded in 1985, Jinghai Poultry Industry Group identifies itself as the largest broiler breeder (including grand parent broiler stocks and parent stocks) production base in Jiangsu province, China. The company has grown from one breeder farm to having 28 units. The assets of the company have grown from RMB2.2 million to RMB350 million.

In 2008, a technology cooperation agreement was signed between Jinghai Poultry Industry Group and Tyson Foods China. In the partnership, two firms were formed to specialize in poultry farming, feed production, poultry slaughtering and food processing. Today, Jinghai is still the supplier of commercial chicks for Tyson Foods China.

“As far as I can tell, it is riskier to solely focus on animal farming or food processing in China, and the production chains need to be completed,” said Gu Yunfei, chairman and general manager of Jinghai Poultry Industry Group. “However, the profit distribution along each section of the industry chain is not even, therefore, ensuring the capital chain security is of great significance.”

Globally, there are several food giants taking the lead in the processing of poultry meat, such as Cargill, Tyson Foods, JBS and CP Group. Some Chinese companies, such as Wens Group, New Hope Liuhe and Sunner Development Inc. are also making major investments to expand. According to Gu, Jinghai Poultry Industry Group is also “looking for a strategic partner” with companies in both China and abroad.

Gu noted that the poultry processing sector calls for an enormous amount of input, and that multi-party collaboration can enhance the strength of each party and allow for integration of production, marketing and reaching consumers directly through retail.

Jinghai has a five-year goal that highlights eco-farming and production safety. Its eco-farming model consists of a high degree of mechanization, automation, standardization and full quality control during the production process. Jinghai is the location of the secretariat for the broiler standardization work group of the National Technical Committee of Animal Husbandry Standardization. This includes items such as standard chicken houses, hatcheries, animal health center, organic fertilizer plants, hazard treatment center and feed plants.

In 2017, according to Jinghai, the company imported 64,000 sets of Aviagen grandparent broiler breeders, second only to Fujian Sunner. And to meet the Chinese demand for the yellow-feathered broilers, Jinghai raised the volume of its self-bred high Jinghai yellow-feathered broiler, which won the National Award for Science and Technology Progress.
