Pasture-raised egg company Vital Farms files for IPO

Pasture-raised egg producer Vital Farms has filed paperwork with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) related to a proposed initial public offering.

Pasture-raised egg producer Vital Farms has filed paperwork with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) related to a proposed initial public offering (IPO).

According to a press release from the company, issued on July 9, Vital Farms applied to list its common stock on the Nasdaq exchange under the ticker symbol VITL. A registration statement on Form S-1 relating to the proposed sale of these securities has been filed with the SEC but has not yet become effective. 

The number of shares to be offered and the price range for the proposed offering have not yet been determined. The offering is subject to market conditions, and there can be no assurance as to whether or when the offering may be completed, or as to the actual size or terms of the offering.

Goldman Sachs & Co. LLC, Morgan Stanley & Co. LLC and Credit Suisse Securities (USA) LLC are acting as joint lead bookrunning managers for the proposed offering. Jefferies, BMO Capital Markets Corp. and Stifel, Nicolaus & Company, Incorporated are acting as bookrunning managers for the proposed offering.

Vital Farms formed in 2007. Headquartered in Austin, Texas, Vital Farms is partnered with more than 200 family farms in the United States. Its Vital Farms-branded eggs are sold in Whole Foods Market Stores across the country.

The company held a ribbon cutting on an egg processing facility in Springfield, Missouri, in 2017. Less than two years later, Vital Farms announced it was expanding its operations there, known as “Egg Central Station.”

According to its press release, Vital Farms egg products include shell eggs, hard-boiled eggs and liquid whole eggs. The company is also involved in the production of free-range butter and ghee.

As of December 31, 2019, Vital Farms had a flock of 300,000 hens, according to the WATTAgNet Top Companies Database.
