Former UEP president, CEO Gene Gregory dies

Gene Gregory, 79, former president and CEO of United Egg Producers, died December 3, 2020.

Gregory was born in Elkton, Kentucky, on January 24, 1941. He met his wife, Linda (Jordan), in high school, and they moved to Alpharetta, Georgia, in 1992.

After beginning his egg industry career at Corn Belt Hatcheries in Gibson City, Illinois, Gregory rose through the ranks to become president and CEO of United Egg Producers (UEP), with offices in Georgia and Washington, D.C. UEP is a national cooperative representing the nation’s egg farmers.

In 2018, Gregory was named to the Gibson City Sports Hall of Fame as having been the founding member. In 2020, he was presented the Gibson City Melvin Sibley High School’s Distinguished Alumni Award.

Gregory is survived by his wife, Linda; one daughter, Jill (Brad) Roberts; one son, Chad (Amy) Gregory; four grandchildren, Jordan, Hailey, Payton and Alex; three sisters, Brenda (Johnny) Moore, Carolyn (Delmar) Case and Sherry (Brian) Bachtold; two brothers, Lannie (Linda) and Ron (Linda).

He was preceded in death by his father, Milam; mother, Elsie; and brother, Todd.

Gregory was cremated in Georgia and his ashes will be delivered by family to Gibson City for a memorial service sometime in early 2021. His final resting place will be in Drummer Township Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, Gregory asked that donations be made to the First Baptist Church of Gibson City, 628 South Church Street, Gibson City, IL 60936.
